The purpose of the Benefits Workshop educational classes is to increase the capacity of individuals with disabilities to become and remain self-sufficient. Enhancing independent skills through education and access to additional resources is essential to successful independent benefits management.

Who Is Eligible to Participate in the Benefits Workshop classes:

Any adult who has a disability or an older adult that lives in Orange County, is eligible for enrollment in a free Benefits Workshop class.

An adult is anyone age 18 or older.

Referral Process

A formal referral process is not required for participation in the Benefits Workshop classes. An individual with a disability or older adult can refer themselves by calling 714.621.3300 and asking to be enrolled in a free Benefits Workshop class.

Benefits Workshop Enrollment Procedures

During the enrollment process, individuals will answer general questions such as name, phone number, email address, Orange County city of residence, and whether any disability accommodations are requested for class attendance. Medical records are not requested. This information is used to enroll an individual and ensure their disability accommodations are met, ensuring a comfortable learning experience.

Adult Benefits 101

Join us to learn in a private, small group setting with an opportunity for your individual questions. This session provides an informational overview of various California state and federal benefits available. If you are looking for information on what is available and how to prepare to apply for your own application for CalFresh, CalWORKS, CalABLE, Covered CA, Medi-Cal and more this class is for you. Learn what information and documents will be required, how you can apply and what to expect during the application process. You will also be guided through how to ask for disability accommodations throughout the application process.

SSI and SSDI: Adult Application Preparation

Join us to learn in a private, small group setting with an opportunity for your individual questions. If you are an adult who is considering applying for SSI or SSDI this class is for you. This class will prepare you to complete an Adult SSI or SSDI application independently with the Social Security Administration. Learn what information and documents will be required, how you can apply and what to expect throughout your application process with the SSA. You will also be guided through how to ask for disability accommodations throughout the application process.

SSI and SSDI: Your Benefits Responsibilities

Join us to learn in a private, small group setting with an opportunity for your individual questions. If you are an adult that has already been approved for SSI or SSDI benefits this class is for you. This class prepares individuals to manage their own approved Social Security Administration benefits independently. Learn about your general reporting requirements, how to turn in updates, wage reporting, overpayments and what the SSA expects from all approved benefits recipients. You will also be guided through how to ask for disability accommodations.

SSI and SSDI Benefits and Preparing to Work

Join us to learn in a private, small group setting with an opportunity for your individual questions. If you are an adult who is currently receiving SSI or SSDI benefits and you’re thinking about returning to work or working for the first time, this class is for you! Learn what some of your options are for increasing your income through employment. This class teaches you what your return-to-work SSA benefits responsibilities are and provides guidance on what you can do to start preparing yourself for employment. You will also be introduced to options for free employment counseling and additional assistance through Ticket to Work, Vocational Rehabilitation and more. You will also be guided through how to ask for disability accommodations.
