DR Newsletter
December 2002 — Issue 2.6

Seasons Greetings,

We plan to start the New Year with a special vocational services section to the DMC web site. By January will be much more informative and functional.

As this year draws to a close I must send thanks out to the wonderful job developers who I have the privilege to work with daily. Their hard work, creativity, and determination continues to inspire me on a daily basis. Thanks for all the hard work you have done this year.

On behalf of all DMC staff let me wish you a calm and joyful holiday season.

Enid

Give to the world the best you have and the best will come back to you.

DMC Client Success Story

A young man named Anthony out of the Laguna Hills office started coming to Job club at which time we worked on his filling out application and going over a few interview questions. At Job club I told him about an open recruitment at the one stop with Toys ‘R’ Us. We rehearsed interview questions and I encouraged him to talk about his past successes. He went down to Toys ‘R’ Us and was hired on the spot. After only two weeks in Job Club, Anthony obtained a great position that he loves! Thank you to Dennis McGuire for his support and Anthony for his hard work.

Job Search Tips / Career Information Sites on the Web

Welcome to the “Web” section of our newsletter. The Internet is becoming more and more necessary in our daily lives and jobs. While it has become easier to get on the web, searching the web for specific information can be time-consuming and frustrating. Every month we will provide you with useful websites related to a specific topic. We surfed so you don’t have to.

DMC Client Success Story

Santa Ana Department of Rehabilitation Counselor Aren Feliciano recently made an excellent placement in coordination with our job developers. A client without any previous job experience was offered a position as a vet assistant after some “sales” and “negotiations” by the job developer. The client loves her job and the employer remains supportive. We couldn’t have done it without Aren Feliciano’s support and assistance. Thanks for helping make this client’s dreams come true!

Don’t Let the Holidays Snow Ball You!

It’s true the holidays may slow down the employment process, but employers and most people get really busy, with parties, luncheons and get-togethers, however jobs are still available and they need to be filled…so why not make it easier for employers this holiday season and continue encouraging clients to job search.

Letting go of the myth employers “don’t hire on a permanent basis during the holidays” is a myth. Most employers are in brighter spirits with more flexibility, and a willingness to help job seekers start a new job before the New Year. Therefore clients who are in job search need not be discouraged with the holidays coming up. Clients can continue approaching employers with a positive attitude and resume in hand.

Happy Job-Hunting!

DMC Client Success Story

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Debra Graham the Rehabilitation Supervisor at the Whittier Office of the Department of Rehabilitation. She has been extremely supportive of my efforts in working with a very difficult client - You know the one who does not show up or call. I have been working very closely with Debra in assessing this client’s motivation and ability to return to work. Thank you Debra for your efforts in collaboration and for your support with this situation.
