DR Newsletter
July 2002 — Issue 2.1

Hi Everyone,

Summer is here again and it's nice to follow the travels of all our co-workers. I sure hope you have a relaxing time planned for yourself, if not start planning. Even if I don't go anywhere, the freeways are a little less crowded and the summer fruit is great.

A new fiscal year is getting under way - catch the wave! Contract offices - our new contract number is #23570

DMC Client Success Story

A young man out of the Laguna Hills office has successfully used the networking skills he was taught in Job Club. He learned of a front desk position at the Double Tree Hotel in Santa Ana, applied in person, and thanks to superb interviewing skills, was hired on the spot. Congratulations to him and all staff involved in helping him learn his fantastic networking and interviewing skills! A special thanks to RC Brian Kelly for all his support with this client!

Cerebral Palsy Resources on the Web:

Welcome to the “Web” section of our newsletter. The Internet is becoming more and more necessary in our daily lives and jobs. While it has become easier to get on the web, searching the web for specific information can be time-consuming and frustrating. Every month we will provide you with useful websites related to a specific topic. We surfed so you don’t have to.

Sherry, a visually impaired client from the West Covina Office has started working part time at Dayle McIntosh Center as the Communications Coordinator. After great teamwork by Dayle McIntosh Center and Anaheim workforce we were able to do an OJT and get things going for Sherry. She has been doing an excellent job and everyone at DMC really likes Sherry alot. They are hoping to have her as a full time employee by the end of August.

DMC Client Success Story

As I started to write this success story I noticed that this is the second client placed at DMC this month. We like to lead by example! Donn has a Master’s Degree in Psychology and is halfway through the extensive 2000 hr internship for his MFT license. Thanks to ongoing support by various RCBs over the past year, Donn has improved his organizational skills (Donn is totally blind and is learning to use the Voicemate) and his interviewing skills, and secured a fulltime position in DMC’s Family and Children Therapy program. Not only has he been offered a very nice salary, DMC is going to pay for MFT supervision for Donn so that these work hours will count towards his MFT internship hours – he should be able to get his MFT license in only 6 months. Rehabilitation Counselor Larry Keaney came through quickly with adaptive equipment, mobility training in the new office, and an OJT!

DMC Job Fair – August 22nd, 2002

Our job developers have been hard at work organizing our inaugural job fair. It will be held at the Crown Plaza Resort at 12021 Harbor Blvd. in Garden Grove on Thursday, August 22, 2002 from 9am until 1pm. Employers will be treated to a breakfast and speaker on financial incentives for hiring DR clients from 8am until 9am, at which time the job fair will open to job seekers. We will prepare our clients for this great recruiting event during the first few weeks of August.

Raffle prizes have already been secured for separate raffles - one for clients and one for employers. We expect to host recruiters from 50 local companies and are opening this job fair to the public through advertisement at local schools, agencies, and in the media.

Transportation to the job fair has been arranged for our clients coming from South Orange County and parts of Los Angeles County. Your DMC job developer can give you more information about this service. In addition, interpreters will be on hand to interpret in the following languages: ASL, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese.

I never notice what has been done. I only see what remains to be done.
- Madam Curie
