John Tostado

Vocational Service Manager

John Tostado has been working with people with disabilities and the under-served for over 20 years.   John started his career with Catholic Charities as a Camp Counselor for low income families while he attended Santa Monica College.  He was promoted soon after to Camp Director.  John used this new position to open up several tutoring and mentoring after-school programs by creating an advisory boards that would fund raise for those programs.  In 1994, Catholic Charities stared an organizing campaign with the Industrial Area’s Foundation for youth and families at risk (Hope In Youth).  There, he organized the community for change and worked with mediating institutions like universities and churches to develop leadership and create community organizations.  John also wrote a grant to create cooperatives for immigrant women through the Campaign for Human Development.  John created 6 working cooperatives in the Los Angels area, 4 of which are still in existence today. While creating cooperatives in the East Los Angeles area, he met Fr. Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries.  John developed and managed their first grant and with in 2 years, he had 300 gang members employed and started 2 new businesses for Homeboy Industries.  John left Fr. Boyle to teach for the East San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program.  There he managed the Projects with Industry grant to employ people with disabilities from skid row.  John was recognized by Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaragosa for placing 200 people with disabilities within a year into gainful employment.  Once that grant ended, John was employed to manage Playa Vista Jobs there he worked to employ people who had over six barriers to employment.  He also managed a Department of Transportation grant, Welfare to Work grant, and WIA grant.

John is currently working for the Dayle McIntosh Center managing the Vocational Services and Interpreting Services Department.  John has successfully merged both new and old techniques in job development to create a more effective way to serve the Department of Rehabilitation and Dayle McIntosh Center consumers for the last 7 years

Cecilia Lucero

Employment Specialist

After graduating from University of Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Sociology, I gained years of experience in advertising, marketing, and sales.  Working with the House of Blues Entertainment as a Sales Manager for the Special Events Department gave me the experience to work with a wide range of clients in a multi-faceted venue. I increased membership sales for the non-profit organization that assists inner city youth by targeting high end entertainment executives. I wanted more of a challenge, so I pursued real estate and the housing industry.  Obtaining experience and knowledge, as a loan agent, gave me an edge and enhanced my capability to educate my clients with the loan process, the most crucial part of the real estate transaction.  My honest and dependable approach to service has allowed me to achieve tremendous success.  While working as a Realtor, I also worked at Hillview Mental Health Center, non-profit organization, as Client Access Coordinator in the Adult Outpatient Program.  I interviewed new clients for eligibility of mental health along with establishing an Open Clinic.  By establishing Open Clinic, data illustrated an increase in productivity and profitability for the agency.  While working at Hillview Mental Health Center, I decided to pursue my masters in Public Administration specializing in Non-Profit Management.  I’m very excited to join Dayle McIntosh Center as I bring high energy and dedication to my work, especially assisting those with disabilities to find a job.  Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a happy client that was placed in a satisfying job

Richard Fels

Employment Specialist

I have worked in Vocational Services for the past seven years. I got involved helping people with disabilities through my daughter Jenna, twenty years ago, with her disability and being her advocate. I worked with the San Gabriel Valley Regional Center prior to her eighteenth birthday than when she transferring to the California State Department of Rehabilitation.
I also assisted my niece Rachel who was born with down syndrome and was legally blind. With Rachel the doctor felt she should be institualized and my goal was to empower her with her disability and to achieve her personalized potential goals. This was done through community education and individual services.
With my daughter I had to provide skills and confidence building in her to maximize her potential:
To go back in the beginning I worked in the Aerospace Industry for The Boeing Company for 22 years as a Project Engineer on the C17, T45 and KC10 Military Aircrafts. When Boeing decided to leave California and relocate to Washington, I and my wife decided to stay in California due to her attending law school, so I decided to go into a different field.
I was hired by Southern California Rehabilitation Service in Downey California worked for them for five years and than was offered a job at Dayle McIntosh Company which I presently work never looked back and never regretted the decision I made.
I believe people with disabilities have a rightful place in our workplace and can contribute valuable things to our economy. Look at all the people with disabilities that have contributed successfully to our society and did not let their disability prevented them from succeeding Painters like Van Gogh to Pollack, Writers Home, Christy Brown, Musicians Beethoven, John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, Political Leaders Julius Caesar, John McCain Scientist Sir Isaac Newton, Stephen Hawkin, Actors Cher, Tom Cruise
As a job developer my goals are to assist On Line Job Hunting Resources Employee! Employer Relationships, Interviewing Skills, Disclosing or Not Disclosing their Disability, Job Accommodations, Rights - The Americans with Disabilities Act, Disability and Innovation, On Job Training, Work Opportunity Tax Credit, Job Coaching Services, Assistive Technology and anyway I can help to make them feel that THEY ARE A VALUABLE ASSEST TO OUR SOCIETY

Carlos Verissimo

Employment Specialist

A background in social activism, dating back to the 1970s in his native Brazil, led Verissimo to his job. In 1974, Verissimo began working as volunteer teacher for poor children who didn't have access to school.
Soon after, he joined the grass-roots movement for democratic elections in Brazil's first ever democratic election.

Verissimo's activist work then took him to Mozambique-Africa, New York, San Pedro, Los Angeles, and ultimately Dayle McIntosh Center seven months ago. My job is to advance the empowerment, equality, integration and full participation of people with disabilities in the community through employment opportunities, working as a Job Developer.
From 1997 to 2002, Verissimo worked for Portal's Mental Health Rehabilitation Services, developed employment services and work adjustment to individuals with chronic and persistent psychiatric disabilities.
